Having signed from Valencia for £32 million last summer, much was expected of the man who had been chased by both Manchester clubs for the bones of three months. It’s fair to say that he hasn’t quite lived up to his billing as of yet, looking slow and ponderous in thought for City.

Manuel Pellegrini looked as though he couldn’t quite make his mind up as to who should best partner Vincent Kompany at the back. You’d have to wonder if any defensive coaches work at the Etihad or if the solution is to just keep chucking tens of millions at the problem in the hope that it will sort itself out?

Anyhow, with the arrival of John Stones, Otamendi is sure to be relegated to bench-warming duty alongside his former Porto team-mate.

Despite his poor season, the succession of clean sheets City managed to collect boosted his points tally to 104, disguising his campaign as a good one. Some might be fooled into picking him, but priced at £6.0, there aren’t too many defenders in the game who’d be a bigger waste of money.
