Blizzard has been at the heart of many controversies over the past few years. From the banning of Hearthstone player Blitzchung over his support of the Hong Kong protests, to the botched launch of Warcraft 3: Reforged, it seems like the only time Blizzard are in the headlines these days it is because they have done something to anger their fans.

But at the heart of one of these controversies was the tone-deaf response of Wyatt Cheng when answering questions about Diablo Immortal.

At Blizzcon 2018, fans responded negatively to the reveal of a mobile version of Diablo, especially when they were expecting an announcement related to Diablo 4. At the Q&A shortly after the reveal, one fan asked if there were any plans to bring the game to PC, to which Cheng said the game would only appear on mobile. When fans booed, he would ask the crowd sarcastically if they all had phones, which was also followed by booing.

Blizzard would later announce another Diablo game was in development, but the damage had already been done and Cheng’s response to fan disapproval would be joked about long after the games release and whenever Blizzard found themselves in another controversy.
