7. Night In The Woods

Night in the Woods is a Kickstarter-funded indie adventure game from a little-known developer (Infinite Fall), a scenario which can always go one of two ways, and a "take and see" approach was certainly sensible with this one.

However, the game released at the start of the year to strong acclaim, and rightly so. Though there's almost nothing in the way of challenge here and it's over in a few short hours, Night in the Woods is a visually gorgeous, thoroughly engrossing character-driven adventure that excels largely thanks to its impressively nuanced writing.

With its atypical depth as it riffs on subjects such as mental illness, sexuality, nostalgia and death, this is a game both hilarious and stingingly true-to-life. If you haven't checked it out yet, you owe it to yourself to.
