11 Most Surprisingly Awesome Video Games Of 2017 (So Far)
5. Star Trek: Bridge Crew
Though on paper a Star Trek VR game sounds like a fantastic idea, its feted unveiling at last year's E3 was met with a mix of intrigue and skepticism, because like so many VR games, a demo doesn't convey the feeling of immersion one gets by putting the headset on for themselves.
Thankfully, Star Trek: Bridge Crew is easily one of the year's most remarkable VR adventures so far, a gloriously entertaining work of wish fulfillment, in which the player can take one of the several crucial roles on-board the Enterprise either with AI ship-mates or actual people via online multiplayer.
While multiplayer VR games so often struggle with maintaining their communities, Bridge Crew has already amassed a fiercely loyal fanbase, and it doesn't hurt that all of Ubisoft's VR games to date support cross-play between PC and PS4 headsets.
Putting it simply, playing the Captain of the Enterprise online with a few randoms is an absolute blast. There are few feelings as truly joyous as shouting "Engage!" and willing your helm (that's the pilot) to warp to another planet.
Even the more "boring" roles like playing the engineer can be enlivened thanks to the game's social appeal: find some like-minded players and even the most familiar and generic mission is outrageously enjoyable.
