11 Most Surprisingly Awesome Video Games Of 2017 (So Far)

4. Injustice 2

As fun as 2013's Injustice: Gods Among Us was, with its uncommonly fleshed-out story mode and crowd-pleasing roster of superheroes and villains, the fairly underwhelming graphics, abusively long loading times and general feeling that NetherRealm were holding plenty back prevented the game from truly living up to its potential.

As such, fans were extremely divided on Injustice 2 pre-release, with rampant criticism for the game's graphics above all else, which weren't deemed a substantial enough leap from the original. It was easy to give into the echo chamber of hate, but thankfully the final product completely vindicated itself across the board.

Touting deeper and more satisfying combat, sharper visuals and a more "realistic" art-style, not to mention an array of new fighting modes, Injustice 2 is everything a sequel should be: bigger, glossier, more ambitious and, yes, simply better.

Given how many were expecting an enjoyable but thoroughly down-the-line, workmanlike sequel, this fully-loaded follow-up has pretty much set the benchmark for the beat 'em up genre.
