3. Sunset Overdrive

Developers Insomniac have had quite the tumultuous time over the years, first giving us Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet & Clank in quick cross-generational succession, only to morph Ratchet's platforming ways into a shooter and lose Spyro to Universal, who crowbarred him into an awkward mould as a Skylanders character. Following that it was the fine-but-nothing-special Resistance trilogy and now the completely overlooked Sunset Overdrive; an over-the-top, personality-driven explosion of pop-culture references and trick-based shooting. Oh, and some of the best boss battles you'll ever come across. Back to that gameplay though, and it's just instantly engaging and rewarding. Perhaps too much emphasis was put on Sunset to save the Xbox One in a year where people were actively looking to drop trow and dump all over it, but the reality is this action-platformer has a ton of solid shooting, complimented by weaponry that has as much personality as the last three Saints Row games on a ten-tonne sugar rush.
