11 Severely Underrated Xbox One Games You Must Play
4. Neverwinter
Who said MMOs can't work on consoles? Final Fantasy XIV proved it could be done on PS4, and Cryptic Studios' Neverwinter is flying the free-to-play flag proudly on Microsoft soil. Brought into this world initially with the help of legendary fantasy author R.A. Salvatore (who you may know from Kingdoms of Amalur, another overlooked gem), the final version of the game doesn't have a great story holding everything together - more a binary 'good vs. evil because we're good and they're evil' setup - but it's more than enough to satisfy exploration-happy RPG fans. An occasionally spotty framerate will tank performance at certain spots depending on how many enemies are on screen and which of the many gloriously eye-popping moves you're deploying in unison, but it sits nicely together for the most part, the control scheme being surprisingly effective at giving you access to a huge repertoire of items and attacks, despite the platform. For that quintessential mix of loot, grinding, immersion and reward that only MMOs can give you, Neverwinter is the best console-based one out there.
