1. Red Dead Redemption - Can A Man Truly Escape His Sins?

In a tale of duty, honour, loyalty and vengeance, the compass of morality has never swayed so much. Yet, one theme rises above the rest to ask the player about the course of their own lives and wisdom of their perception: redemption.

John Marston is taken from his life as an outlaw and forced into a deal with the Bureau of Investigation, beginning a journey to hunt down and kill his former comrades in exchange for amnesty.

Beginning with such a heavy tone poses a quandary to the player, as to whether one good deed can erase the memories and implications of a life outside the law. As Marston's story progresses and he fulfils his end of the bargain, the protagonist is subsequently betrayed, as the Bureau reneges on the deal and kills Marston at his home.

Following on from the initial conundrum regarding redemption, they can often seem like an admirable path to follow, something to applaud from a safe distance; yet the perception in reality is much darker, as Red Dead Redemption brutally illustrates the human incapacity to forgive and forget sins of the past. In the aftermath of Marston's death, gamers may consider how they would personally perceive an outlaw, a thief or a murderer served their time in jail, only to move next door to their own.

How would you treat a tale of redemption?
