11 Video Games You Won’t Believe Are In Development
10. Assassin's Creed: Rift & Infinity
The Assassin's Creed franchise is occupying a strange space. Financially, it's doing better than ever, with the previous release, Valhalla, smashing all kinds of records. Creatively though, the historical series has become emblematic of publisher Ubisoft's bloated, quantity-over-quality approach to game design.
So, it's not a huge surprise to know that change is on the horizon. In a lengthy - and honestly quite boring - blog post on their website, Ubisoft confirmed that their two main AC studios, Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec, are joining forces to work on the series together for future instalments.
Their first effort, Assassin's Creed Infinity, is rumoured to lean even heavier on live service elements than the previous games. Which is just what everyone had been asking for, right?
All is not lost though, as recent rumours suggest that thanks to how early Assassin's Creed Infinity is in development, Ubisoft are planning to release a stopgap title in the meantime. This project, codenamed Rift, was allegedly an expansion for Valhalla that's being spun-off into its own game.
More interestingly this release is said to be more in line with the earlier franchise instalments, opting for a smaller open world, and more stealth-focused gameplay.
