When SimCity first released back in 1989, its success established the Urban Simulation genre. Developed by Maxis, it employed a non-linear style of gameplay and no-win conditions, letting you create cities that start from a mere patch of land.

This growth doesn’t go unchallenged however and to keep things interesting, Maxis implemented a disaster system. Depending on which SimCity game you play, this can range from natural disasters like Earthquakes and Tornados to something a little more bizarre, such as zombie outbreaks.

SimCity (1989) featured a set of monster attacks but upon its SNES port, this aspect was changed. Developed and published by Nintendo, one of their new additions changed this monster design to simply be Bowser.

Monster events still played out exactly like before, so the sprite change was purely cosmetic but a 75ft Bowser invading your city remains a terrifying thought.
