Before we had Monster Hunter World, there was a time when Capcom’s flagship franchise stuck closely to Nintendo. Monster Hunter Tri was exclusively released on Nintendo platforms in the West, whilst Monster Hunter 4 never left the 3DS. Bringing numerous spinoffs alongside these to 3DS, one such game was Monster Hunter Stories, a turn-based RPG.

It came with a series of 6 Amiibo, Nintendo’s NFC figurines and whilst they remained exclusive to Japan, their use extended beyond Stories. As part of an Animal Crossing collaboration, Happy Home Designer saw the introduction of Felyne, a new character based around Monster Hunter’s cat-like sapient monsters of the same name.

Brought in as a DLC character, Felyne is one of AC’s more laidback villagers and uniquely, is the only third-party villager to date. Later added into New Leaf through its “Welcome” update, it remains to be seen if he’ll return in New Horizons.
