12 Announced Video Games That Are Never Coming Out
2. Dead Island 2
First Announced: The open-world zombie-themed RPG was first confirmed at Sony's 2014 E3 conference (4 June 2014).
Dead Island 2 has had an infamously rough production history, with the first game's developers Techland opting to work on Dying Light instead of this sequel, and the baton being passed to Yager Development (Spec-Ops: The Line) for a planned Q2 2015 release.
By that time, however, Yager were relieved from helming the project due to disagreements with publisher Deep Silver, who replaced them with Sumo Digital (LittleBigPlanet 3) by March 2016.
After being nudged by Eurogamer last May, Deep Silver retorted that Dead Island 2 was still in active development, but beyond that, we've heard not a peep.
Considering how low the hype for this one already was, it really feels like the time for the franchise to flourish has passed. With Dead Rising 4's recent financial failure perhaps suggesting "zombie fatigue", expect Deep Silver to scrap it soon enough.
