7. The Evil Within 2
Another sophomore sequel aiming to right the wrongs of yesteryear, the original Evil Within was a throwback to the sort of horror that was at its apex circa 2004-2006, yet has died off since.
Personally I adored its over-shoulder camera, ammo conservation and the many, many callbacks to Resident Evil 4 (this was directed by Shinji Mikami, after all), but alas such a restrictive vision was never going to catch on.
Now, for The Evil Within 2 we're getting a far more grounded, personal tale where main-man Sebastian Castellanos finds himself haunted by images of his family, taking him on a quest to shoot plenty of horrors right between their handfuls of eyes.
Brilliantly, Mikami and his team have decided to implement a number of open-world elements, where Silent Hill-esque radio static will lead you to more missions and secrets as NPCs also give out additional quests.
One to watch, as there really aren't anywhere near enough third-person horrors out there.
