12 Best Video Game Comebacks Of All Time
4. Lara Croft - Tomb Raider (2013)
The early Tomb Raiders still stand as some of the best games to come out on the Playstation and are also considered impressive due to their massive surprise success within a male dominated market Showing, much like Samus, that there was room for strong, female protagonists in the video game world.
Either way, Lara never actually experienced the kind of slump that other games on this list went through, but the 2013 reinvention of both her and the series was so breathtaking that it deserves a spot on this list. There wasn't anything cool or slick about Lara in this game - at least not her movement anyway - everything was brutal and bloody struggle.
Lara reacted to the situations she found herself in in a realistic manner: one of terror, but she never backed down either. This Lara also wasn't over-sexualised either, a point of contention for many, and instead felt like a truly grounded character.
That, and the gameplay was a beautifully satisfying mix of all out firefights, stealth, cinematic action pieces, exploration and, of course, a spot of the old tomb raiding. Chuck on top that the it was written by Rhianna Pratchett and the whole thing was a winner.
