12 Fantastic Video Games You Must Play Over Summer 2015

11. Bastion

Recently seeing a release on PS4 back in April, SuperGiant Games' first effort is still their strongest. In everything from the art direction to the exquisitely perfected third-person hack n' slash-style combat, Bastion puts you in the shoes of The Kid, a small boy trying to rebuild the titular Bastion, aided by an anonymous narrator. Being the Bastion itself is an interconnected hub of weapons, augments, perks and character stat-boosts, you'll journey off into a string of gorgeous locales, all coming together in a strangely dreamlike fashion as the world around you tends to construct itself with every step you take. The best part is all in the presentation though, as one Logan Cunningham (a man with a voice so cool it'd give Sub-Zero a run for his money) narrates everything on screen. He invites you into the world, slowly unravels the tale of who you are and what you're doing along the way - and occasionally comments on your actions as they're happening, truly establishing a sense of being that many games never come close to. Being that Bastion was the first proof of concept from the studio themselves, you can just tell every inch of its execution was masterfully crafted, and it's when you're off on another adventure with your specced up character - only for the Narrator to drop in a small tidbit about where you're exploring - that it comes together like nothing else.
