12 Greatest Romances In Video Games

11. Jackie & Jenny - The Darkness

Although now it feels like the games industry is exploring just how much they can get away with when it comes to new titles being elaborate slot machines, in the previous few years there's been many developers who look to inject some much-needed humanity and worthwhile immersive beats into games or genres you'd least expect. Starbreeze Studios' take on the Top Cow comic material was exactly that, kicking out a title that was just brimming with ideas the likes of which helped make The Darkness a spectacular game. One such thing was the option to just sit anywhere near a TV in the world and watch an entire movie, something that when it came time to hang out with your hero Jackie's girlfriend, meant you were free to sit with her for the entire runtime of To Kill A Mockingbird, a variety of sporadic animations playing out alongside some appropriately cutesy dialogue. The idea of having to protect Jenny from the horrific Darkness itself (essentially a controllable manifestation of Hell) was key to certain scenes through the game, but it really made you care for her throughout - something that come The Darkness II when she ends up biting the bullet precisely because of this unstoppable force was incredibly affecting.
