12 Most Hotly Anticipated Video Games You'll Need To Play In 2016

9. The Witness (PC, PS4)

Jonathan Blow (Braid) is as much a video game intellectual as he is a designer, and the talks he's given on the medium are well worth watching if you want to get some deep, thoughtful insights into game design. But with the countless delays to The Witness, which was first announced back in 2009, many of us began wondering whether we'd ever see his eagerly anticipated first-person puzzler come into existence, or whether Blow would simply be a video game professor from here on in. But finally we got a trailer for The Witness this year, and it was worth the wait. Set on a mystical island with over 650 puzzles to solve, The Witness takes its inspirations from the 90s classic Myst. The island has several distinctly themed zones and a mountain in the middle, which you work your way towards by solving the game's puzzles. Mercifully, you don't need to solve all of them to complete the game, encouraging multiple play-throughs with different approaches. The game looks great too, with the graphics having a vibrant, almost dream-like quality about them that manages to be nostalgic as well as technically impressive and very much a product of the current generation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tk-RsawGjPY
