8. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
You can't be too mad at Naughty Dog for going back on their claim that Uncharted 3 was going to be the last of Nathan Drake's adventures. The Uncharted series for the PS3 seemed to take the console's hardware well beyond its limit and the remastered collection for the PS4 still outshines most other offerings in the current-gen, so an Uncharted designed specifically for the PS4 is a piece of fan service that we'd always have been left wondering 'What If' if it didn't happen. Drake's next adventure sees him retired and trying to settle down with Elena, but coming back for the classic 'One Last Job' with his brother Sam to seek out legendary pirate treasure at the long-lost caribbean colony of Libertatia. Expect spectacular cinematic set-pieces, excellent dialogue fluctuating between the comical and the heavy-hitting, and mind-blowing graphics that lead the way for their console. What we've seen so far of Uncharted 4 shows off a refined version of that flowing, organic gameplay that made previous games in the series feel so cinematic yet decidedly gamey. From hiding behind sandbags being battered by bullets like punch-bags, to uppercutting enemies into food stands to send melons rolling in all directions, to Nathan's stumbling yet graceful movement as he evades fusillades of mercenary gunfire, Uncharted 4 already looks like a technical and storytelling masterclass, and a worthy conclusion to Drake's adventures.
