12 Most Hotly Anticipated Video Games You'll Need To Play In 2016

6. Horizon: Zero Dawn

The makers of Killzone are finally moving away from the gritty futuristic shooter on which they built their reputations, working on an intriguing upcoming action-RPG set in a distant post-apocalyptic future of tribal weaponry and mechanised dinosaurs. Refreshingly, it's not a future of rubble and decay, but a lush and verdant place where nature has all but reclaimed the earth and knocked humanity's technological progress down a few pegs. You control a hunter called Aloy, traversing the gorgeous land and hunting down the formidable beasts that roam it. The creatures range from small but fast bipedal robots with pack mentality that you'll need to set up elaborate trip-wire traps to take down, to monstrous armour-plated tanks that give the Metal Gear mechs a run for their money. It's hard to tell at this point whether it's correct to call Horizon an RPG or - like so many games of today - more of an action-adventure game with RPG elements. Guerrilla described it as a balance between the relatively RPG-light styles of GTA and Assassin's Creed, and the likes of The Witcher 3 and Skyrim. My one concern with that description Is that Horizon could be trying to tick too many big-game boxes rather than carving out its own identity. If Horizon avoids that pitfall though, then it could be the much-needed new AAA IP the world's been waiting for.
