12 Severely Underrated Sci-Fi Video Games You Need To Love

10. Wolfenstein: The New Order

Where plenty shooters these days fall apart is relegating their most spectacle-filled scenes to only a few minutes of actual game-time - forgetting that if you're going to put some whopping great guns in the hands of the player, you better then give us ample time to use them. That's certainly not a problem for Wolfenstein, as MachineGames - the studio comprised of select members from The Darkness devs Starbreeze Studios - know how to let you revel in some custom-made carnage. Basically, Wolfenstein wants you to feel empowered, it knows exactly how to do it - and my letting you dual-wield everything from huge miniguns to twin assault shotguns, you'll be turning scores of enemies to paste within seconds, the most maniacally Joker-like grin emblazoned across your face. Story-wise it's a bit of a mixed bag in the tonal department, as things like a brilliantly stupid alternate history timeline that sees the Nazis forces winning World War 2 is contrasted with some extremely human and intimate scenes between hero B.J. Blazkowics and Anya Oliwa. Still, the series has always been built on the premise of blowing endless strings of evil Nazis into chunks and feeling stupidly powerful doing it - and The New Order excels in that department through and through.
