12 Severely Underrated Sci-Fi Video Games You Need To Love
11. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Thanks to both creative visionary Hideo Kojima and the fans of MGS' strangulated hold on the franchise, it's rare anything outside of the main canon gets a look in - despite something like the PSP-release Metal Gear Acid being a very shiny hidden gem. For Rising, development was handed over to Bayonetta-developers Platinum Games - who if you've not played any of their games simply revel in creating the most over-the-top and hyper-exaggerated combat scenarios possible; something that's perfect for the cyborg ninja version of Raiden to slash about in. Spinning off from the Metal Gear Solid series whilst retaining things like the signature mechs and monologue-loving villains, the main draw is a quick-fire über-slow motion Blade Mode that maps Raiden's attacks to the right analogue stick, letting you quite literally carve things into a million pieces. Not only that, but your 'Fatality'-style finishers involve ripping cyborg spines out to replenish your health - and in the opening few minutes you'll get to grab a Metal Gear RAY by the foot and throw it clear across a few city blocks... Do descriptions of video games get any better than that?
