4. The Silent Vigil Held By Star Trek Online Players Following The Death Of Leonard Nimoy
Speaking of celebrity deaths, the world recently said goodbye to Leonard Nimoy a.k.a. Spock from the Star Trek franchise. Like Robin Williams, he had many connections with the gaming industry offering his famed voice to games such as Seaman, Civilisation and Kingdom Hearts. When the news of his death hit, Star Trek Online's fanbase logged on and held a silent vigil on the game's version of Vulcan, Spock's home planet. They stood together around a fountain to pay tribute to their idol; approximately 1,000 players joined in to show their respect. While the World of Warcraft tribute to Williams is very sweet, there's something about this vigil that happened very naturally. It was fans doing something to remember a man who touched their hearts, joining together in a show of solidarity.
