12 Terrible Video Games That Actually Had Great Ideas

Anything involving Norse mythology is inherently badass and seemingly a perfect fit for a video games. That may seem obvious now, with a Norse-set God of War on the horizon, but early in the last console generation, our hopes of getting a Viking adventure involving Midgard and the ever-colourful cast of Norse Gods lay in this game.

Viking: Battle for Asgard had all the buzzwords - Vikings, open-world adventure, huge battles featuring hundreds of troops onscreen at once. It seemed epic in every way. While it's maybe a bit harsh to call the game terrible, it failed to live up to its mythological potential with repetitive missions, terrible performance issues, and a nonexistent story.

But the premise of being a single elite warrior in a large-scale war between gods is a powerful one, and this is one of those bad games that I can at least half-heartedly recommend (if you can get it on the cheap) on account of the premise and lovely levels of gore.
