12 Video Games That Will Change How You See The World
5. Planescape: Torment
Many games have an in game journal that pens itself with in-depth extras about the people and places you encounter in the universe. Only in Planescape Torment is this journal utterly vital for you to figure out what the hell is going on.
Torment sees you awaken in a mortuary in the centre of the multiverse. As The Nameless One you are an immortal, resurrected with amnesia and a determination to find out who you are. Each time you die you awaken in the mortuary, with an NPC being killed somewhere in the multiverse to fuel your resurrection (leading death itself to be a moral quandary).
Companions join you on your quest, offering hints of who you were in past lives, and most of the main plot and side quests force you to tackle philosophical riddles and moral dilemmas.
As the main quest eludes, the most prevalent theme centres around what makes a person who they are, and what can change their nature. Whilst the game predated multiple endings, choice plays a factor in how the gamer interprets the outcome, leading us to question our behaviours and the impact they can have on those around us.
