12 Worst Video Game Moments Of The Decade (So Far)
3. Mass Effect 3's Ending
Speaking of things being mined for cash, how about we take the ending to a 200-plus hour game, gut out the bits you need to make it make sense, and sell it to all the soon-to-be angry consumers after they finish the basic version... Sound good? Of course it doesn't, but that's exactly what EA decided to do when faced with the realisation that 'hey, people sure do care about Mass Effect'. They promptly forced Bioware to finish ME 3 far faster than they wanted, lifting the character of Javik clean out and labelling him as paid-for DLC - despite his viewpoint and dialogue being integral to the plot. Not only that, but there were additional missions that shed light on the existence of the otherwise-random 'Starchild' you interface with at the close of the game, but they were put behind paywalls too. How absolutely, indescribably lovely it all is, to see gaming hacked to pieces by those who know we'll have to pay to see the full thing. Can you imagine if a film randomly ended and later said "Here's what you actually wanted to see, that'll be another $9.99". People would lose their minds - so why don't gamers?
