13 Flat Out Lies We Were Told Just To Sell A Video Game
8. Titanfall Will Kill Call Of Duty
The Lie: Ever since Respawn Entertainment formed with former Call of Duty staff members, the party line has been this: they will take a massive bite out of Call of Duty's pocket, and ever since they expressed their desire to take on Activision, the gaming press blew this up into "Titanfall is a Call of Duty killer." The Truth: Titanfall is great fun, but honestly, who has gone back to playing it ever since they regenerated? It's not exactly a game dripping with replay value, entertaining though it is and certainly better than the last offering in the CoD franchise. Commercially, EA has been curiously circumspect about divulging sales, though the last figure put it around the solid if not spectacular 3.5 million units mark, while critically, it scored higher than the last few CoD games. It's safe to say that Titanfall hasn't killed CoD and likely never will, though there's at least hope that if Respawn can learn from their mistakes (namely that terrible campaign mode) for Titanfall 2, they might have a stronger case on their hands, especially as CoD's sales are finally beginning to dwindle.
