If any character could ever be described as larger than life, it's Augustus Cole €“ better known as the Cole Train. A key player in your war against the Locust in Gears of War, Cole is a loyal loudmouth who provides pretty much every memorable line in the franchise. Just about every Gears of War player will have added "baby" to the end of a sentence to replicate Cole or yelled something about being the Cole Train €“ its human nature, baby. Cole's immense popularity probably stems from his role as the comic relief in Delta Squad, especially when compared to his macho, humourless teammates. There's even a section in Gears of War 3 where he relives his Thrashball days while delivering a bomb, juking and shoving through a series of Locust to score a touchdown €“ it's a rare moment of escapism and fantasy in the notoriously bleak Gears series. Most of all, we love Cole for bringing colour and light to the incredibly brown and grey world of Sera; it would definitely be a far less interesting world without him.
