13 More Horror Themed Video Games To Play On Halloween

11. Parasite Eve

Eve

While BioShock took full advantage of the genetic horror genre with its use of ADAM it certainly wasn't the first to do so. In fact, Parasite Eve takes its name from the eponymous villain of the first game so-named for her motherly attachment to human mitochondria. By motherly attachment we mean they share a form of telepathic bond allowing her to mutate and incinerate any living being.

The games in the Parasite Eve series are actually detached sequels to a novel by Japanese author Hideaki Sena. You control Maya, an NYPD rookie whose own mitochondria are evolving making her the only one immune to Eve's control. She has to battle mutated rats, crocodiles, and other monstrous beings and stop Eve from creating an "ultimate being" that threatens all of humankind.

Not only does the game feature morbid monsters and a dark story but plays as an RPG making the gameplay incredibly fun. Encounters with monsters are random and battle is based on a real-time system. You earn experience points like any RPG and outside of general weaponry can utilize "Parasite Energy" to help defeat foes.

Parasite Eve was quite innovative at the time of its release and continues to be a fun game to this day. It was followed by a sequel and another spin-off - The Third Birthday - released for the PSP. If body horror is your thing then this is one game you're gonna love.
