13 Massively Hyped Upcoming Video Games That Will Totally Disappoint
1. Shenmue III
Release Date: Q3/Q4 2018
The Hype: This follow-up to 2001's Dreamcast classic Shenmue II is without question one of the most anticipated video game sequels in history, given the infuriating cliffhanger the last game concluded on almost two decades ago.
Franchise creator Yu Suzuki shocked the world when he revealed Shenmue III at E3 2015, and though little of the game has been shown off since, the fact it's happening at all feels like nothing short of a miracle.
Why It'll Disappoint: It doesn't feel good to say that, but it's clear from the brief snippets of footage that this game is operating at a rather modest budget, so fans need to ensure they're not expecting a visually stunning, mechanically flawless game.
Some might argue that Shenmue III couldn't ever live up to the hype, because fans have elevated the game's expected quality to such a high level, and they've also heavily romanticised the two prior games, which have their share of niggly gameplay issues (specifically the camera and controls).
If you're smart, you'll expect a 7/10 and be pleasantly surprised if it's anything more. If you're genuinely convinced it's going to be a masterpiece, though, you might be in for a rude awakening.
