9. Mass Effect 2
Sitting nicely after one hell of an inaugural instalment, and before the franchise would disappoint people more than firing up an Xbox One without an internet connection, Mass Effect 2 remains one of the best games of all time, due to an exponentially long list of reasons that are just as specific to every individual player as they are to any newcomer. Taking the initial games universe and expanding it even further whilst giving you a instant-badass back-from-the-dead storyline, it allowed you to build a crew of mercenaries in whichever order you saw fit, all the while nurturing many extremely involving relationships with your entire crew. From having the option to romanticise the genetically-engineered Miranda to sharing war stories with your alien best-bud Garrus, putting together your own crack-team of space-marines under threat of universal destruction was never so much fun. Whilst some didnt like the final boss, in a nod to LOST, the thing to take away from all three Mass Effect games is the genuine love you have for your crew, and the devastation many of us felt if we lost a core member during the final assault on enemy ground.
