13 Predictions For 2017's Biggest Video Games
8. Crackdown 3's Cloud Tech Is A Colossal Failure
The Prediction: Crackdown 3's hype revolves largely around its cloud-based rendering tech, which will allow multiplayer gameplay to feature persistent, city-wide destruction far in excess of the Xbox One's singular processing power. But don't be shocked if the servers crash on day one and the tech ultimately isn't quite as exciting as it sounds.
Why It Will Happen: Because almost every major online game has server issues on release, and something as complex as rendering inherent to the nature of the game only makes this more likely.
It remains to be seen how server issues mid-game will affect the look of the city (will destruction disappear and reappear as it connects and disconnects to servers?), but this has the potential to be incredibly ugly indeed.
Why It Might Not: It really depends upon how the use of servers is integrated into the game, but as they'll be using Microsoft Azure's cloud computing platform, fingers crossed that they'll get all the support they need.
