13 Terrible Levels In Otherwise Awesome Video Games

6. Xen - Half-Life

Half Life Xen
Valve

Valve's insanely influential FPS makes an unfortunately stumble in the home stretch, when Gordon Freeman is whisked away to the alien realm of Xen and the game's most fundamental mechanics are largely jettisoned.

The player now has to take part in awkward and irritating platforming sequences in an often confusingly large world. Simply, Xen lacks the finessed, meticulous design of Black Mesa and feels like a section of the game that had to be rushed to meet a production deadline.

Though the eerie look of Xen certainly had promise, overall it felt more like a chore getting through the platforming and reaching the game's final boss, the Nihilanth.
