14 Brutally Hard PS4 & Xbox One Games You Can't Handle
8. Super Meat Boy
One of the most infamous titles for video game difficulty, Super Meat Boy practically reinvented harsh 2D platformers back in 2011, thanks to character and world designs that - for the most part - are a joy to figure out and get through; they just require razor-thin timing windows and a mastery of Meat Boy's 'floaty' control scheme.
Such an approach to platforming isn't as immediately tight as the likes of Ori & the Blind Forest, but it's in service of letting you factor in momentum to your jumps and runs. Line up a straight stretch of land and you can fly through levels at breakneck speed - however consequently, the amount of times you'll get turned to paste in the process will take its toll on your sanity.
At the end of each level, you get a replay of ALL your deaths in one compilation video, just so the game can poke fun at these attempts that little bit more. Whether you can laugh along with it, lick your wounds and keep going though, is the one immediate test of whether you'll actually see Super Meat Boy through to completion.
