2. Assassin's Creed II

If you were to point to one Assassin's Creed to rule them all, it has to be this exemplary second instalment.

Taking everything that was great about the original; the verticality, arrange of assassination options, the ultra-cool dual-timeline premise - everything was built upon in the best way possible.

New protagonist Ezio immediately became a fan-favourite, with the game's ending breaking the fourth wall to address everyone on the other side of the screen in a way that's gone down in gaming history.

AC Brotherhood was a continuation of this peak point in the franchise's canon, but I'd hold up AC II as the absolute best Assassin's Creed of them all.
