5. Project Octopath Traveller

A return to old-school 90s RPGs, Project Octopath is taking the cutesy sprites of yesteryear and giving them a re-rendered overhaul. Now we've got 3D modelled environments but with 2D characters and NPCs - it's an incredible unique and fun look that translates into some familiar and yet punchy combat.

See, battles are turn-based, but you'll constantly be saving up a Boost counter - something that if you don't cash it in, only makes subsequent attacks stronger. There are also weapon-specific weaknesses to take into account when fighting, and your standard array of status ailments and team tactics when making the offensive.

In motion it all looks gorgeous; immediately loveable in that way Square's older games used to, albeit with great snappy encounters that really kick once you start busting out strings of Boost attacks.

One to watch, if you weren't already eyeing it like a hawk.
