14 Video Game Franchises That Will Never Die

7. Final Fantasy

FINAL FANTASY XV
Square Enix

Ironically enough, Final Fantasy was originally meant to be Hironobu Sakaguchi's last attempt at making an RPG. After multiple failures, the game represented his last chance to redeem himself in the eyes of his superiors. If he failed, he was all set to leave the video game industry forever, return home and pursue other interests.

Thankfully, Sakaguchi succeeded and Final Fantasy quickly become a staple in the JRPG genre. To this day, the series is one of the most recognisable names in video games history, and it's perhaps one of the most lucrative franchises out there; it carries a legacy almost thirty years old, and it's produced 15 titles in the main series alone.

With the Final Fantasy VII remake right around the corner, things are looking hopeful for the quintessential JRPG. It's never quite fallen out of relevance, and providing the developers listen to the series' fans and don't repeat the mistakes of XIII, it certainly never will.
