6. Anthem
Another "what the hell were they thinking?!" release that continued to mark the decline of Bioware this generation, first we had Mass Effect: Andromeda being a laughing stock, then Anthem as a complete tire fire.
Honestly though, its combat is solid enough and the flight mechanics are stellar... you're just barely given any opportunities to indulge in them.
A stupidly intrusive "cooldown" affects your flight every 10 seconds, and mission design revolves around defending points or fetching items. At one point in the story, you're even tasked with going away and scoring a number of headshots, retrieving a number of hidden items or killing certain enemy types, just to advance what little "story" there is.
As was made clear post-launch by a Kotaku exposé, Bioware and Anthem were a terrible mix as things went on. The team's strengths never lay in military fiction, and Anthem was initially meant to be something so much greater - only to be trimmed, sliced and mutated into the product available today.
Bioware are now planning a complete, No Man's Sky-sized overhaul, but honestly, they'd be better off moving onto anything else.
