Whereas the very idea of a remake is anathema to most moviegoers, video games seem to exist in some weird sort of Bizarro World where the slightest whisper of a shiny new coat of paint is met with streamers and champagne instead of gritted teeth and furious forum rants. But for every remake or remaster that's announced, there's still a mile-long list of games we'd like to check off (I'm still holding out hope for a Thief/Thief 2 remake). With a Resident Evil 2 update in the pipeline, it's only a matter of counting down the days until Nemesis gets a much-needed facelift as well. It's been a whopping 14 years since the original RE remake hit shelves, but it's truly amazing how well the game still holds up, graphics and gameplay-wise. Sure, characters still manoeuvre through corridors with all the grace of an M1 Abrams with a busted tread, but with so much gorgeous scenery to take in do you really mind the bumpy ride? Every hallway, stairwell and crevice positively oozes menace. The remake's power lies in it's ability to take everything you remember the first time around and manipulate it just enough so that it all feels new.
