Journey wouldn't be half the game it is without its visuals. Though it's not the only component that makes the Playstation exclusive a standout experience, the style is integral in telling the entire story in the absence of dialogue.

Without a single word being uttered, the peaks and troughs of the titular journey are perfectly captured through the look of the game and the camera. Not only is it striking from an aesthetic point of view, with the minimalist design allowing your character and key elements of the environment to take on greater significance, but the game does so much to convey the emotional journey through images.

Slowly walking through a sparse, seemingly never-ending desert while the wind shimmers the sand and flaps your cape is kind of haunting and daunting, isolating in a way that allows the contrast of the eventual climax, which is bursting with colour and urgency, to powerfully resonate.

The music is also essential to Journey's success, but it works alongside the visuals to deliver a single, distinctive gaming experience.
