15 Best Months To Be A Gamer (Since 2000)

4. November 2011 €“ Scrolls, Swords And Deception...

There's nothing better than sinking hours into a video game, only to realise there's still plenty to do. With a Bethesda RPG, you can literally spend hundreds of hours questing and adventuring, only to discover you've seen less than half of what the game has to offer. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim became a gigantic hit for that exact reason; there was so much to see and do, it dominated our lives for months.

For those that managed to tear themselves away though, there was still plenty to play this month. The Legend of Zelda returned with the Wii MotionPlus friendly Skyward Sword. It featured the most unique gameplay of the series, thanks to the motion controller's advances, with a series of puzzles based around the direction you swung your sword. While it still followed the classic Zelda formula, there was plenty of new ideas to make this another classic for Nintendo.

For the Sony fans, the third (and so far, final) Uncharted game was released, again to critical acclaim. It didn't really need to change or alter much; it simply provided the same cinematic experience as the first game. Sonic Generations was released to honour the blue hedgehog's 20th anniversary while Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 improved on the already outstanding fighting game by adding a bunch of new characters (several unseen in the series before, like Phoenix Wright), making this an appealing month for the fighting gamer too.

Metacritic Roundup: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, 96. The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword, 93. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, 92. Average: 93.67.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
