15 Best Video Game Platformers Ever
3. Rayman Legends
Rayman Legends is a massively overlooked game. Its stature probably doesn’t desperve to be above Spyro, Sonic and Mega Man, but it terms of quality? It earns the bronze medal position comfortably.
Released in 2013, Rayman sold poorly initially, but as word of its massive quality spread, the game enjoyed longevity.
So bright and colourful, the Teensies who must be freed are bursting with personality and will make you want to visit every level every which way to release them all. The game digs deeply into each theme and fully realises its visions across the board.
Easily the best part though are the boss levels. There are some standard platform arena style matchups, but the rhythm sections at the end of each themed stretch bump Rayman up a level.
Rather than a traditional one on one fight, these involve flying through paths at lighting speed, timing your jumps and dodging enemies all to the precise timings of classic rock songs. It’s even more fun than it sounds.
The game comes with a great co op feature too, meaning you can play with a friend and guide each other through, or just cut ropes and swing battering rams into their face. Whatever works.
