Although many uttered zombie-like groans when it was revealed that Techland had left the Dead Island franchise to create - wait for it - another first-person zombie game, the reality is that Dying Light is a brilliantly-fun, Far Cry-esque sinew-splatter with a suitably ridiculous story. Essentially requiring you to check your brain in at reception and pick up a brochure for Just Going With It, you'll then tackle everything from cackling villains to strings of sprinting and clambering zombies, the resultant combination of free-form Mirror's Edge-style platforming, gunplay and gorgeous graphics making this something of a hidden gem. Cast aside due to its increasingly crowded genre label, Light is easily the best thing the developer have put their name to yet, and if you were holding back until this fell into cheaper territory at retail for the sake of avoiding history repeating itself as with Dead Island - now's the perfect time to pop some zombie skulls (or dropkick them off a roof).
