Although Capcom keep proving they really don't know what to do when it comes to main instalments in this legendary series' canon - it was the first of this now ongoing spin-off series that moved away from the gung-ho approach the last two Resi games too - and ended up recouping the majority of the fanbase in the process. Where the last two games had dropped the ball considerably when it came to something as intrinsic to the experience as atmosphere and horror, Revelations 2 continues the initial game's penchant for more confined and hostile level design, dynamic set-piece situations where you're backed into corners and forced to fight your way out - and above all, nailed a story where you genuinely want to see through to the end. All that said though, Revelations 2 does tick the action-happy box with a feather quill too, thanks to the ludicrously fun Raid Mode. An extension of the first game's checkpoint-chasing side content that saw you blasting heads and scoring major points along the way, 2 injects a string of unlockables including costumes, characters and firearms to keep you coming back and attempting to top the leaderboards over and over again.
