8. Darksiders Genesis
An out-of-left-field release I don't think anyone expected to actually work, Darksiders Genesis comes together far more naturally than it had any right to.
Essentially, DG takes the over-shoulder, God of War-aping combat of its main series, then spins perspective and upgrade systems into a dungeon-crawler, letting you play the whole thing in optional co-op.
Developers Airship Syndicate were formed from the ashes of THQ going bankrupt, and Darksiders artist Joe Madureira once again brings everything to life with his signature musclebound characters and epic environmental designs.
There are awesome tag-team moves and specials, with both returning character War and newcomer Strife being a blast to control. Combat positively sings, with each character specialising in up-close melee or distanced chip damage, respectively.
Solo you can hop between War and Strife whenever you like, but combined with another player who knows what they're doing, Genesis is a fireworks display of special attacks, powdery explosions and imbued bullets tearing across the battlefield.
