Notable Releases - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, Cuphead, Super Mario Odyssey

With the abysmal failure of Nintendo's Wii U, gamers were skeptical about its successor, the Switch. Fortunately, Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild shut the naysayers up immediately. The instant BOTW was released, it was lavished with universal praise, mainly for its open-ended gameplay, creative combat mechanics, and amazing world design.

But Nintendo wasn't the only thing that had a return to form. Resident Evil VII rejuvenated Capcom's zombie saga. Cuphead became the biggest run-and-gunner since Contra. Battle Royale titles made a massive comeback, thanks to PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds. Nier Automata breathed new life into the series. Although Persona has always been solid, the fifth entry was a work of art, elevating the brand beyond measure.

With so many good games, it'd be easy for new IPs to get lost in the shuffle. Fortunately, that wasn't the case with Horizon Zero Dawn. After playing this mesmerising open-world adventure title for a matter of minutes, you knew it was destined to become the next big franchise.
