15. Console Hard Drives
Saving your place in a video game was a hassle back in the day. Originally there were no save spots, as you only had a select number of lives at your disposal, and once they were used up, it was game over. Some games used a password system to keep your place, but those were just plain annoying time wasters. Eventually we moved to the memory card system, which was a substantial step up, but having the save system separate from the game system itself still presented some flaws. God forbid you forget your memory card, else ye be screwed. Whats great about game systems now is that they come with an internal hard drive, allowing you to save your games directly to your system. And with cloud storage systems, you no longer have to fear losing data should it get corrupted or deleted. They also make it possible to download games directly to the hard drive. I own the entire main
Resident Evil series on my PS3 hard drive, something not possible before their implementation. Even if you still wish to continue using memory cards, those are available as well, thought I see their use dying out fairly soon. While saving a game used to be a bit of a hassle, now it is a process so seamless you no longer have to give it much thought.
