2. Everyone Remembers Their First - Resident Evil (1996)
Forget all about all the modern graphics, the silliness of the where the story went, or anything else in between. Let's dial it back to the first game.
For many, even after that hammy live-action introduction, we still didn't really know what we were in for. Is this an action game? Are we just taking weird dog-like enemies on? Why is Wesker still wearing sunglasses, at night, indoors...?
But it's that corner, you know which one I mean. That corner, that cutaway to FMV as you see a figure chomping away on something.
Only... that's not something, that's someone, but before you can collect yourself, that slow head turn reveals something that we'll never forget.
That pale face, blood dripping from its maw. The shambolic rise to give you an Arklay greeting, hugs and all, was just terrifying.
Be it the original, or the remake on the GameCube in 2002, that first zombie reveal will hold place as one of the most memorable of the series.
