15 Iconic Final Shots Of Beloved Video Game Characters
6. Songbird - Bioshock: Infinite
In Bioshock: Infinite, Songbird was Elizabeth's ever present protector, designed by Comstock to protect the gifted child and kill anyone who threatened to take her away. But he was so much more than that, having become Elizabeth's only friend during her years of isolation locked in a secure tower. Songbird attacks several times throughout the game. When you hear a certain piped melody, he will appear and wreak havoc in his attempts to get to Elizabeth. She begs him to let her go, to allow her to be free, but his role in the world is to keep her safe in the tower and he will not let Booker, Elizabeth, or the ongoing civil war stop him. It's not until the closing stages of the game that Songbird becomes a friendly character. When Elizabeth works out the melody to summon and control him, she brings him in to help with the final battle aboard Comstock's airship. He tears through soldiers and destroys the Vox Populi who are attempting to board the ship and destroy it. The striking moment in Songbird's story though, is how it ends. With the final battle won, Elizabeth opens a tear to another world, landing you in one of the first rooms in Rapture from the first game. Booker and Elizabeth arrive safely in the room, but Songbird appears in the water outside the window. He panics and thrashes around before he drowns, right in front of a distraught Elizabeth. It's a poignant, devastatingly sad scene. One of the most powerful adversaries in the game, a creature that has stalked and likely killed you so many times, reduced to drowning through no fault of his own. Watching his limp body sink out of view is one of the most powerful sights in the whole game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsjYmlnP1a4
