Without question the most controversial mission from any CoD game is No Russian, the fourth level in Modern Warfare 2. It sees the player character, Joseph Allen, working undercover with Vladimir Makarov as he and a team of goons carry out a terrorist attack on Zakhaev International Airport.

The gang mercilessly mows down hundreds of civilians as they stalk deliberately through the airport, and though the player is never actually forced to kill anyone (and the mission can be skipped entirely), it's still a jaw-droppingly dark scenario where the player basically has to sit through mass slaughter for several minutes.

Naturally the backlash was severe, with many calling the scene overkill or tasteless, while others commended Infinity Ward for pushing the envelope and inspiring debate about the nature of art.

What's clear above all is that nobody's forgetting this mission any time soon.
