15. Tom Morello (Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock)

The introduction of boss battles into a rhythm game was a weird idea, but Guitar Hero III pulled it off thanks to star power and insane, over-the-top songs. The first of these unique encounters is against Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello, known for his unique style of playing which incorporates feedback and tapping among other unorthodox techniques and styles. The song that soundtracks his battle (created for the game) is an insane combination of riffs, chords and sounds that seem to have jumped straight out of a high-budget sci-fi film. It's challenging to play at first but it's a ton of fun too. These musical fights use the new Battle mode which sees players using power-ups to affect their opponent and disrupt their combos. Utilising these and defeating Tom Morello at his own song feels great, and it's a testament to just how well Guitar Hero managed to work this system into their game that it's not the most conventional boss challenge of all time, but is still freaking awesome.
